A new Plan B release "A Little
Bit of So Much Truth" (mp3 only)
A Little Bit of So Much Truth(Un Poquito De Tanta Verdad)
is the sound track to Directory Jill Friedberg's feature film
documentary, of the same name. Jill and James collaborated
over the internet for most of 2006 and 2007. James was bouncing
between Holland and Paris, and Jill was bouncing between Seattle
and Oaxaca, Mexico. We passed movie and audio files over our
ftp site and managed to collaborate that way. Finally in June
2007 they both were able to be in Seattle for final mixdown.
The first premiere of the film was in Oaxaca on July 14, 2007(exactly
one year and one month after the battle began).
"working on the music for this documentary film was
as inspiring as it was interesting to make. Jill is truly
as brave as the people of Oaxaca, Mexico that she was documenting.
She spent months and months in battles between regular working
class people and the national police, avoiding harm and capturing
on film a truly historical post-modern people's movement."
- James van Leuven/Plan B

I'm
The Captain... CD Review:
"Don't be fooled by the title of Seattle-based Plan B's
first full-length I'm The Captain, Where Are We Going? Spearheaded
by James van Leuven, Plan B know exactly what direction they're
headed with their blend of rock, pop, and electronic. Crisp,
programmed beats and wobbly guitar notes make an unlikely
pairing with the feather-like quality of the vocals, yet somehow
the many musical elements, along with the numerous guests
artists, merge into a single, enjoyable entity on the album"

The new Plan B album "I'm The
Captain, Where We Going?" is out. The new record
reflects Plan B's transient experiences while touring/traveling
in the U.S. and Europe. Featuring guests Singer Amy Blaschke,
Cellist Brent Arnold(Built To Spill), Violinist Jen Kozel(Elliot
Smith), Violinist Sarah Standard(Carrisa's Weird), and more.
"I'm The Captain, Where We Going?" is surreally orchestrated
Hip Hop/Indie Rock/Electronic Record.

Like
A Ship Sailing Review:
"Plan B's 2002 CD, Like a Ship Sailing, is better understood
when compared with Land of the Loops' 1996 release, Bundle
of Joy. Both are similar in that they share a fondness for
bizarre samples and beautiful sound effects generated by dusty
equipment. But the differences between the artists (Plan B
is James van Leuven; Land of the Loops is Alan Sutherland)
are more instructive. As with Beck's album Odelay, Land of
the Loops' hiphop beats are separate from and work in counterpoint
to the alternative-rock melodies. Plan B's music has no such
division; everything instead seems organic and indigenous.
This is why van Leuven's music is startling: it's not novel
(like Beck's) or experimental (like Land of the Loops'), but
authentic." - Charles Mudede, The Stranger Weekly Newspaper,
October 2002

Keepsake
Review:
"...Eschewing a lead voice, Plan B prefers to leave something
open to the listener's imagination. Their sound can't really
be described on paper. Alternating electronic tones, trip
hop bass, and hip hop beats; all interwoven into abstract
compositions and vague constructions. The vocals seems more
like murmurs. The five experimental tracks form a strong whole
that fits together perfectly. The cello on 'why is it?" or
the dark moods of "systemitis" always fit. "Keepsake" is a
different sort of ambient music, that delves in all areas
to create an irreal music. On "untitled" the guitar is reminiscent
of a post rock experiment, while the electronic feel quickly
returns for "in search of". No time to get comfortable, Plan
B changes colors with each track, without loosing itself in
tiresome experimentation." - Liability, FR, March 2003
